If given the chance, dogs will eat almost anything that they come across or are offered. Most dog owners are not fully aware, that feeding some foods that we as humans consume, can be actually dangerous to their health and the health benefits that a dog brings to its owners.

1). Chocolate:

The Foods Your Dog Should Never Eat - This Will Surprise You

This is one of the more common foods that a lot of dog owners are aware of and which can be fatal to give to their pets. Not good to leave a bar of chocolate lying around for the dog to have a quick meal.

Indeed, one of our latest rescue dogs can at the moment nearly jump up on the kitchen worktop. In a way, this is not a bad thing as we basically cannot leave any food in the kitchen, within sight.

What does Chocolate Contain:

The product contains theobromine and caffeine. It can cause muscle tremors, high temperature, vomiting and seizures which can lead to death.

2). Onions:

Onions are great for helping to flavor meals like stews or pies.

What Do Onions Contain:

They contain quercetin, a flavonoid that is part of the antioxidant compounds family. If taken in excess quantities, they can damage red blood cells which affect their immune system. Indeed, in extreme cases, a blood transfusion might be needed.

3). Cheese:

Used to give a very small piece of cheese as a treat, but that has stopped now. Pity, because they really enjoyed it.

What Does Cheese Contain.

The problem with this type of food is that our dogs do not have the enzymes required to break down the components, such as sugar and fat contained in the cheese.

Enzymes are biological molecules that are vital for life. They aid in important functions within the body such as digestion. If excess amounts are consumed, uncomfortable systems such as diarrhea and vomiting can occur.

4). Bacon:

My god, do I love bacon putty and also when it is served with a fried Irish breakfast, the rare time that I take it.

What’s In The Bacon:

Bacon is rich in fat, and if consumed regularly can lead to a condition in dogs called pancreatitis. This happens when the pancreas becomes inflamed. This organ helps to control blood sugar and the digestion of food.

Naturally, this can lead to health issues with digesting food. It should be noted that like us humans, the possible damage can vary because there are numerous types and sizes of breeds of dogs.

5). Garlic:

Garlic is good for keeping the vampires away. Seriously, it is valued as a culinary spice in cooking and something that I wasn’t aware of; it is one of the oldest plants which is cultivated today.

What’s In Garlic:

The plant is part of the onion family, and the stronger the plant, the more toxic it can be. We have already mentioned onions it should be noted that this plant is more dangerous to dogs than the onion.

The effect of a dog ingesting garlic is that over a period of several days, the dog may become tired and listless. Also, its urine will range from orange to dark red.

6) Caffeine:

I have never shared a coffee with my dog and I don’t know of anyone who has as well. Maybe they might have drunk it by mistake when it has been left around the kitchen by mistake and it was cold.

What Does Coffee Contain:

Coffee, my favorite morning beverage, contains a stimulant known as Methylated xanthine.

For me, it gives me a kick to my day, when I need it. However, it can cause vomiting and heart palpitations which in extreme cases can cause death.

7) The Cores of Apples:

The Foods Your Dog Should Never Eat - This Will Surprise You

I wasn’t aware of this before my research, but the core of an apple can be quite toxic to a dog. I know like most of us, we try to avoid the core, I wasn’t aware of this fact. It also applies to the core of pears, peaches, and plums).

What Does The Core Contain:

The core containing the tiny black seeds contains amygdalin which is a form of Cyanide. This prevents the blood from carrying oxygen to the body. The dog can suffer from dizziness, seizures, and an inability to breathe. Your pet will have needed to ingest a lot to cause major damage.

If you don’t own a dog, at least one, there is not necessarily anything wrong with you, but there may be something wrong with your life.

  1. Bacon! That surprises me as I just assumed it was meat like any other meat. Then again I suppose the fat of the meat is not good for anyone, human or dog. I always knew Onions were bad for dogs. When I picked up my Cavalier as a pup, the breeder told me not to feed him leftover pizza due to the onion and cheese. Not really fair for dogs is it?

  2. Thank you for providing this list for all dog owners. A lot of people aren’t aware of just how toxic those ingredients can be, especially if given on a regular basis.

My mom had a very pampered Shih Tzu that loved to eat table scraps. Pretty soon the dog pretty much just ate whatever my mom ate, but then started developing serious colon problems. The vet identified the problem, but the dog was in seriously bad shape for awhile, and then had to be on a special diet for the rest of her life because of the damage to her system.

I hope your readers take your warnings to heart!
